I was in a sewing machine store the other day, poking around. Ya have to stay on top of things so ya know what's out there, right?
Whew, thankfully I did NOT find anything I liked better than my own machine here at home. I decided to write a post about why I like my machine so much.
One of the first things that comes to mind is how easy it is to change the walking feet (Acufeed is what Janome calls it). The bigger part of the foot that has the actual upper feed dogs on it stays in the machine, and I can just slide the feet on and off to change between the regular foot, 1/4 ", open toe or stitch in the ditch foot. Handy dandy!
Also, I like how it has buttons on the front that take me right to my favorite stitches. When I put on my 1/4" foot, I just push a button and it moves my needle to the correct position and lowers my stitch length to 1.8.
I like the choices of FMQ feet that came with my machine. Not only does it have the set of three feet with the open or closed toed metal feet and the clear dish shaped foot,
it also has a hopping foot. There are times when that just works better!
I'm happy to be able to change the plate without getting out my screw driver! I just push this little lever and it pops the plate up, then I can clean or change to the single hole plate or whatever I need to do and just snap the plate back in place.
I like this big foot pedal, it doesn't creep away from me like my smaller one did.
I like that the needle position is so easy to adjust and that it changes in very small increments so you can get it exactly where you want it. I like how solid my machine feels and that it sews 1000 spm, but I can set the speed so it won't go that fast when I don't want it to! There are all kinds of little things that I don't even think about until I sit in front of another machine, and then I think, "What, no needle threader or thread cutter???"
Ya know, I have days when I wish I didn't give away my workhorse, the Horizon. Don't get me wrong, I love my current machine. But all in all, nothing beat it dollar for dollar.
ReplyDeleteLuckily, I'm in love with my current machine. Like you, I feel spoiled by the various features not available on more expensive brands. And I've developed a major partnership with those features. And best of all, I have a few more features that are "new" to me that I've yet to try, so that make exploring that much more fun!
I'm glad you are in love with your machine. It makes all the difference in the world.
Looking for a better machine -- I'll have to check this one out!
