I really enjoy FMQing! I finally got a machine that can do it (my Janome Horizon!), and started trying to learn last January. I have so many little squares of practice stitching I could carpet a room! I started learning feathers from a DVD I bought from Ricky Tims called "Grand Finale". Click here to go to his website. The wonderful thing about this DVD is that it has video of him making the stitches and showing his techniques - so much more helpful than reading instructions! I got to where I could make decent feathers.
One day I saw Sally Terry's method of making feathers and decided I wanted to learn it too. It is an excellent book! I practiced on paper until I got the shape in my head.
I made a practice square...
It went so well I just got right on this baby quilt and started going. I know it isn't a masterpiece, but I really like the way it is turning out!
Humm, maybe a shot of the back will be easier to see.
I'm sure there are expert 'featherers' (?) out there who see lots of things wrong, but I like it, and I guess that is what is important, right?
I haven't finished the quilt yet, and there are two more to go. Who knows how my feathers look by the time I am done?
Wow, you're doing really good with that! Isn't it fun? I love it when I find a new skill.
ReplyDeletekeep rocking it... Yay!
