Here's a story for you...
My son (he's 22) was at a garage sale with a friend. He saw a table that his fiance thought was cute, so he asked how much it was. $20! He decided to get it for her. When he picked it up to move it, he thought it was heavier than it should be. He asked the owner - "What's in here?" The owner said, "Nothing.". He started poking around and realized it was a sewing machine cabinet, with an old Singer 301A in it. He decided to ask, "Is it still $20?" To his delight the price was still $20! SOLD!
Then he brought it home so I could check it out. I took courage from Michelle at this blog: http://lifewithlou.blogspot.com . She is always finding old machines and fixing them up and then giving them to "The Sewing Machine Project", an organization that gives sewing machines to people who need one. I also went HERE where they have a lot of great advice on how to get an old machine into running shape. We worked on it for a couple of hours last night, and it is running great! I'm not sure what he plans to do with it, but now he is stripping the cabinet and making it beautiful...I think his fiance might be in for a treat!
Awesome!
