Simple fabric gift bags

My family is odd.  That's all I can really say to explain it.  I am giving all of my siblings (6!) and their adult children each a fire extinguisher (and a box of matches!) for Christmas.  Told you we are odd!  Have you ever tried wrapping a fire extinguisher?  Fabric bags to the rescue!

If you want to make one, they are very easy.  Use your measuring tape and measure the width of your item at it's widest part, add a couple inches for ease.  Then, with your measuring tape measure the height.  I would loop the tape around the bottom and hold the ends together at the top so you can decide how much "poof" you want at the top.

Divide both of these number by 1/2 (since you will have two sides) and cut out two rectangles.

Sew around three sides, leaving the top open. I decided to just trim the top edge with pinking shears - so easy!  Tie with a pretty ribbon and now you can use up all of your holiday odds and ends fabric!

I had all fourteen of these babies done in about an hour and a half.  Check that off my list!

  2. I'm all for giving useful gifts. The bags are reusable, too. :)
