My dream sewing table!

Remember that crowded sewing room I posted about?

My new table has arrived and I am so thrilled! For the last few months I have had about a hundred different plans, drawn lots of sketches, and even had a graph paper drawing of my room, with little cut out pieces of paper for the different pieces of furniture, and I would arrange and rearrange them over in different patterns. My sewing room is kind of small, and I just couldn't get everything in there and still have room to walk. I looked at some really beautiful tables made by Koala, but they were so expensive, and they didn't quite meet my needs. I was getting frustrated and feeling like it would be impossible to squeeze what I wanted into my little room. One day a friend suggested I make the table I want - well, she can do things like that but I only work with sewing machines, not power tools! So I went to a cabinet maker with my plan. A table for everything - cutting, pressing, sewing, and quilting!

I took out everything else in my sewing room. I have to say I am really loving it! I had them put in "bread boards" on both sides of me as I sit at the machine for space and to support a large quilt.
It is counter height so I don't have to bend over to do cutting, but, shorty that I am, that means my feet wouldn't reach the floor! So I asked them to make me a shelf for my feet and the pedal for the machine.
Look at all the storage! There is a bank of drawers next to my machine on the right, shelves on my left and all of this space on the other side with drawers and shelves - and some of them are still empty. I think I need to buy more fabric!!

Now I am going to mess up that room and give it a "broken in" look! Good thing I took these pictures while it was still clean. It may never look this clean again! Aaaaah.

Thank you Sutherland Cabinets!

UPDATE:  If you would like a copy of my pitiful plans, click HERE.  They are really sad plans - I took them to the cabinet maker and he made his own - I wish I had thought to ask for a copy of HIS plan.

  1. Your new table is beautiful!

Just wondering...do you use your start/stop button on your machine? I see you have one. I love mine, and never use the foot pedal.

Have fun in your wonderful sewing room!!

  2. I have played with my start/stop button, but I use the foot pedal when I'm not playing...but it is nice to know it is there in case I ever sprain my ankle or something!

  3. Great job! I love my table I had a cabinet maker do the machine cut-out for. The sewing machine cabinets at stores cost about three times what they are worth.

    Great Job!!! Sharyn in Kalama

  13. I have had your dream table bookmarked on my computer for quite some time while my wife was looking for a sewing table. We keep coming back and using your for a reference to compare all the others to. Safe to say you did an awesome job in the design. Since we have no others that compare as favorably would it be possible to get a copy of the plans as well, or perhaps you could post them online since you have had numerous requests. Unless that violates an agreement with your cabinet maker.

  15. Your site is great!! I'm going to get to work on some of your shared ideas. Saw that many have commented and requested your plans for your marvelous table. I've had to downsize from a house and would love to look at the plans to see if they work in my smaller space. Couldn't find where/if you had posted them. Are you still sharing?

  20. Love your table! Could you explain what your sewing machine is sitting in? It looks like a drawer of some sort. The folks at that cabinet shop did a great job interpreting your sketch! Hope you've been enjoying it these past couple of years!

    1. I had them build a shelf and there is a hole in the counter top. The machine sits right down in the hole and the clear insert around the machine makes every thing the same level as the table top. I hope that answers your question!
